John Rogers is the co-founder and president of Friends of the Cerberus, a not for profit community group campaigning to save the breastwork monitor warship, HMVS Cerberus, in Port Phillip Bay. John has heavily researched the career ofCerberus and the other vessels and men of Victoria’s colonial naval forces. With contributions from many members of the public John created a Victorian Naval Forces database of men who served in the Victorian Naval Forces. This database of 2800 men received a commendation in the 2011 Victorian Community History Awards. John has written other articles such as ‘Black men in the Victorian Navy’ and ‘Two of a kind’, an article about the Long Chambered Maxim-Nordenfelt 14 pounder Quick Firing Guns on Cerberus. John created and maintains the website www.cerberus.com.au and is currently writing a history of the Victorian Naval Forces as well as creating an iPhone/Android app of the location of Victorian Naval Forces relics.
