Please note, this is a narrow search to provide a listing of permanent public records physically held and accessible in a particular location. Many more records relating to that region may be held at the main warehouse located Victorian Archives Centre in North Melbourne, for which you can search using our general catalogue.
Although most of the permanent public records for the State of Victoria are held at the Victorian Archives Centre in North Melbourne, there are also some permanent public records that are held in other locations in Victoria.
This page allows you to view a listing of all permanent public records held in the repository of a particular class A Place of Deposit (POD). These include records held at regional archives centres in Ballarat, Beechworth, Bendigo, and Geelong, but also those held at University of Melbourne Archives.
You can also filter results using our general catalogue to show only records held at a particular repository.
This page also has links (at the bottom) that allow you to do keyword searches for each particular location (with the exception of University of Melbourne Archives).
What do I need to know before I start?
You will need to know which location you want to browse. The links below will give you a full listing of all the series titles of records held at that particular repository. You can then select particular records for viewing at the reading room in the location where they are held (or view online if they are already digitised).
The listings are only for records held at a particular location. They do not include all records about a particular place because many of the records are held at our central repository in North Melbourne at the Victorian Archives Centre.
- Ballarat Archives Centre (BAC) full listing of series held
- Bendigo Regional Archives Centre (BRAC) full listing of series held
- Geelong Heritage Centre (GHC) full listing of series held

View online or at the Reading Room?
Most of these records will only be viewable by ordering them for viewing at the reading room of the location where they are held. Some may be digitised which you will be able to tell from the listing.
