About these records

This series consists of inward registered correspondence received by the Chief Secretary's Department, relating to Edward Kelly. The correspondence mostly relates:

  • to proposals received from members of the public on how to capture Kelly
  • the management of Kelly whilst in Pentridge Prison, and
  • communication between the Department and the police and the Kelly Reward Board.

This series does not contain all of the Chief Secretary’s inward correspondence in relation to Kelly. Other items are located within VPRS 3991 Inward Registered Correspondence, and to find these you will need to use the Chief Secretary’s indexes and registers to order them for viewing in the reading room (that is, these records have not been digitised).
